After the success with Harry's Bar in Venice, the Hotel Cipriani in Venice and the Villa Cipriani in Asolo, Giuseppe Cipriani in 1934 detects a small and modest resale of oil and wine, transforming it into the Locanda Cipriani.
Surrounded by a lovely garden, full of flowers, vegetables, herbs, and on which the scenery is composed by the the ancient Basilica of Torcello and its Bell Tower, it offers a unique atmosphere in the world. It is not a coincidence that Ernest Hemingway chose it as the inspiration place for the writing of "Across the River and Through the Trees", devoting several pages to Torcello: the Locanda Cipriani has thus become a popular destination for all those celebrities and characters which come to visit Venice since the postwar period, including Charlie Chaplin, Paul Newman and the complete British Royal Family.
In managing the Inn for over 30 years, Giuseppe Cipriani was flanked by his wife Gabriella. It is on the beginning of the 80s that their daughter Carla and her son Bonifacio Brass took the Locanda Cipriani over, allowing this prestigious place to have a continuity in management and in cuisine, too: it is for this reason that it is still one of the most appreciated restaurants by the local inhabitants too, especially for weddings.
The Locanda Cipriani's menu always offers different and elaborated courses which are a wise interpretation of the local dishes and products. It's almost impossible to get up without sampling at least one homemade cake.
